Welcome to the BinWiki. This is a small wiki that contains information on releasing commercial binary-only Linux games (most of the content can also be applied to non-game programs as well). The reason for making this wiki and writing the articles in there is to help indie game developers release more games for Linux distribution. The wiki also contains information about releasing commercial games on the Linux platform, such as information about the available app stores.
This wiki is based on the Mikron PHP wiki software, a small single-file wiki script written in PHP that uses SQLite. This makes it possible to move, clone and/or download the wiki as needed with minimal requirements and setup steps. The wiki script has been modified to add an extra Download Database link at the sidebar so that anyone can download the whole wiki in the form of a SQLite database file.
The wiki's contents are as follows:
Checklist a quick checklist-style list for things you want to check when making a Linux game.
Testing includes information on testing your Linux game (which distros to use, etc).
Platform Differences lists some differences between Linux and other common platforms (like Windows).
Standards lists a few standards for inter-operability across Linux distributions and programs.
Deployment Methods includes information on the available deployment methods for Linux games.
Tools lists the tools that can help when deploying Linux games, such as Installers.
App Stores lists the known application stores for commercial Linux games.
Needed Information is the place to put (and find, for authors) questions and information that this wiki needs to cover
